  • Title: Illuminae

  • Genre: Science Fiction
  • Series: The Illuminae Files  Book 1
  • Available in library?:  Yes - print and eBook,

The Illuminae files is a book based in space in the twenty fourth century written by Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

It’s the first book in it’s series and is about a girl called Kady, who had to flee from her planet when a big corporation came in and blew stuff up. Then she finds that her ex-boyfriend is on the same spaceship as her. His name is Ezra Mason, and he just happens to still be into her. They travel across space, running into various problems, such as a sadistic AI, a virus that makes people insane and not to mention the big bad enemy spaceship chasing them through the void.

Some of the secondary characters in this book include AIDAN, the sadistic AI, Captain Torrence and Winifred McCall. I recommend this book for Sci-Fi lovers, as there are lots of spaceships and lasers. It’s probably ages 13 and up, because it can be hard to understand in places and there’s a bit of violence. It’s written in a really interesting way. Instead of just writing it, Kaufman and Kristoff have used a series of “Files” and security tape descriptions to depict the story.

I give this story 4 out of 5 stars, because while it is a great book, there are some parts where it could be better.
