Group Research Task – Era and culture of Germany (Book Thief contextual research)

Work together in small groups to research a particular aspect of German Life and culture that will give you and the class a greater understanding of the time period when 'The Book Thief' is set.

  •  You will be given a topic, and, as a group, research and answer the questions provided.
  • You will have one period to research and plan your answers, and then you will present your findings to the class

Using pictures from the internet:

You may like to include pictures in your task.  However, you need to make sure that you select pictures from the internet that can be reproduced for educational purposes.  Use these following tips for selecting images:

  • World Book Online – Within a World Book article there will be a tab called ‘Media’ which contains images. Worldbook gives permission to reuse these images for educational purposes.
  • Google Image Search – Advanced: http://www.google.com.au/advanced_image_search
    > under ‘usage rights’ select ‘free to use or share’
  • Look for images labelled as free to download under Creative Commons licence.

Think of different names for some of the topics for example: 

"Night of Broken Glass"

"Crystal Night"
